This is a masterpiece vintage ophthalmoscope made in the late 19th C. by optical instrument makers F. Davidson & Co, London. The instrument consists of a series of 29 lenses that moves by rotating the lower disk. The middle disk indicates the strength of the lens in the sight-hole. The upper disk provides supplementary lenses when needed. On the patient side, two reflecting mirrors (flat and concave) are interchangeable. The instrument handle is made with silver and contains a rotating papillary scale. The whole is inserted in a leather-covered box lined with purple velvet.
